North Dakota Court Permits Statewide Vote on “Fighting Sioux” nickname

Here’s the latest development in the University of North Dakota nickname controversy: The state Supreme Court opted not to prevent a statewide referendum on whether the university should be forced to keep its “Fighting Sioux” moniker. The NCAA penalizes teams that use Native American names and logos, but the Sioux tribe in North Dakota doesn’t have a problem with it.
