California Schools Will Train Kids to Sell Obamacare

by Nathan Harden - Fix Editor on July 2, 2013

There’s something disturbingly Orwellian about this, when the state comes directly at your kids in order to “educate” them in support of a left-wing political agenda.

The Los Angeles Unified School District will use a state grant to train teens to promote ObamaCare to family members. Covered California, the state’s health insurance exchange, announced grants of $37 million on May 14 to promote the nationally unpopular law.

LAUSD will receive $990,000. The district listed as a primary outcome for its project, “Teens trained to be messengers to family members.”

Covered California spokeswoman Sarah Soto-Taylor said staff have not questioned this goal.

“We have confidence that the model LA Unified brought to the table will be successful in reaching our target population, which includes family members of students,” she said.

LAUSD will also use tax-paid staff to promote ObamaCare through phone calls to students’ homes, in-class presentations, and meetings with employees eligible for ObamaCare’s taxpayer-covered healthcare, the grant award says…

“Teens are part of a ‘pilot’ program to test whether young people can be trained as messengers to deliver outreach and limited education to family and friends in and around their homes,” said Gayle Pollard-Terry, a LAUSD spokesman…

It’s hard to believe this is what America has come to. They are going to spend tens of millions of dollars to brainwash teens into promoting a government program. This has the flavor of the old Soviet-style approach–go after the kids directly, use the schools to cultivate political ideology.

Once you get the youth accustomed to government dependency, then you’ll get their loyalty at the ballot box for life. Democrats in California know what they’re doing.

I’m hoping that a little Ayn Rand and a lot of Robert Heinlein’s juveniles will provide some balance.

This is no different from Michigan Health Dept using 4th graders to tout need for radon and lead testing in homes.

“The district listed as a primary outcome for its project, “Teens trained to be messengers to family members.”

It does not do this at all. If you actually read the proposal, you see that there is not a “primary outcome” but this bullet point is listed as fourth of the four ideas for the plan. In fact the traget population is described as “Full-time adult education students and district’s part-time and contract employees” not students. I understand this post wasn’t written by an actual journalist but you’d think someone would check facts.

The kids will undoubtedly be asked to report on their parent’s acceptance – or non-acceptance – of the ideas.

Obamacare, gun control, with this administration, kids are always involved.

I wonder if kids will have to turn in their parents.
