More College Presidents Join the Millionaires’ Club

How do you get super rich these days? Become a college president:

Robert Zimmer, president of the University of Chicago, drew compensation of $3.36 million in 2011, topping a list of 42 private college leaders who made more than $1 million.

The millionaires club grew 17 percent from 36 in 2010, according to a survey by the Chronicle of Higher Education. A review of 550 private college presidents found that the median total compensation for the leaders of the nonprofit institutions was $410,523 in 2011, a 3.2 percent increase from the previous year…

Ha ha! “Nonprofit institutions.”

Being a member of the liberal academic elite is such a sweet deal. You can pretend that you are devoting your life to serving others through the noble cause of education, shaking your head at the greed of Wall Street Republicans and the terrible problem of income inequality–all while enjoying a salary fifty to one hundred times larger than the average American worker.
