Adjuncts vote to unionize at Ithaca College

Part-time adjunct faculty at Ithaca College decided to unionize by more than three to one in a vote last week, Ithaca Journal reported:

Ithaca College part-time faculty — also known as adjuncts or lecturers — are paid $1,400 per credit hour. …

Ithaca College’s average tenure-track, assistant or associate professor is paid $77,100 annually, according to the American Association of University Professors. Full professors get a $100,500 average salary.

Around a quarter of the adjuncts did not vote.

Inside Higher Ed said it’s the third recent victory for Service Employees International Union’s Adjunct Action project in New York state in the past month, following votes at the College of Saint Rose and Schenectady Community College.
