City official leads boycott against professor who compared Black Lives Matter to KKK

The University of Virginia might have violated the law by bullying a professor into taking leave because of his political views on Black Lives Matter, and a city official is now taking the baton against him.

The vice mayor of Charlottesville, home to UVA, is leading a citywide boycott of Bella’s restaurant because it’s owned by Douglas Muir, an “executive lecturer” in science, technology and society.

wes-bellamy-city_of_charlottesvilleWes Bellamy posted a screenshot of Muir’s Facebook comment to Bellamy’s Instagram page and wrote an angry post about it:

On another note…I will NEVER frequent @Bellasrestaurantagain. […] I would encourage everyone in the city to boycott the restaurant. I would also implore the @theuniversityofvirginia and the Darden School of Business@dardenmba (One that’s celebrating Diversity Week) to address this issue immediately. The notion that#BlackLivesMatter can be comparable to the Klu Klux Klan is not only incredibly misguided, but goes to show the lack cultural awareness that still plagues many professors at our Universities across the country. […] We have support from the highest of the high to the lowest of the low, and WE are here to STAY and WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO CREATE CHANGE!!!#blacklivesmatter #BoycottBellasYou have my number Frank Muir [sic], I’ll await your call so that you can get the cultural training that you need. We can make a day, a week, a month, or however much time of it to get you where you need to be!

One commenter on Bellamy’s post – which is full of vitriol and mockery against the official – points out that a boycott of a Charlottesville business hurts Charlottesville:

Who is some podunk vice mayor, to encourage a boycott of a business of the town? THAT is an ignorant way to “change” things.

Rod Dreher of The American Conservative flagged the post, calling it “disgusting – and dangerous!”

When you have a senior city official calling on the citizenry to boycott a man’s business because you disagree with his political opinion, and demanding that he submit to re-education, democracy is in trouble. These Social Justice Warriors are not content to cost this man his teaching position. Now they want to destroy his wife’s restaurant. I hope Muir lawyers up and finds cause to sue the university and the vice mayor. And I hope everyone in Charlottesville goes to dinner at Bella’s, if only to take a stand for free speech and against bullying by the SJW mob and its fellow travelers in university and city administration.

The Cavalier Daily reports that Muir’s three classes will be taught by the engineering department chair, W. Bernard Carlson, until Muir returns Monday.
