Brandeis University dean: ‘Yes, all white people are racist’

A dean at Brandeis University recently posted on social media that all white people are racist, and that criticism of critical race theory “often” serves as a “straw man” to deny the existence of systemic racism.

Kate Slater, assistant dean of student affairs in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, wrote on Instagram over the weekend that “no number of statistics or facts” she could offer would convince the unwilling that (systemic) racism is a thing.

Which is a little ironic considering her stated “mission” is to “facilitate an understanding of race and racism through honest and frank conversations.”

All white people — including herself! — are racist, Slater contends, because so-called “whiteness” is the “norm” and “default” in society.

Be sure to note that it’s whiteness the dean despises, not white people. If you’re unsure of the difference, Slater says you’ll have to watch her video titled “What Is Whiteness?”

Further, Slater claims white “folx” fear critical race theory (CRT) because they don’t want to buy into the notion that racism is a comprehensive monolith:

Be aware that if you haven’t read anything about CRT, Slater has made it “crystal fucking clear” she won’t waste her time in a debate with you.

According to her personal website, the dean is a “White anti-racist scholar and educator” who “investigates White racial identity formation and how racism operates individually, organizationally, and systemically.” The “ultimate goal” of her teachings is “liberation from oppression for Black people and people of color.”

In its December 2020 hiring announcement, Brandeis says Slater will be a “primary responder to student crises,” help to “create programming, resources, and strategic initiatives that facilitate the success of our underrepresented student populations” and will lead anti-racism trainings for the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Slater is currently completing her PhD on “the experiences of underrepresented minoritized students at predominantly white institutions” at the University of New Hampshire.
