California’s public universities are now in the abortion business

New law requires institutions offer ‘toilet bowl abortions’

In California a new law mandates that the state’s public universities provide medical abortions to women.

The abortion pill, formally called RU-486, is a misnomer for a combination of drugs that essentially kills the growing embryo then produces a miscarriage. Women often experience heavy bleeding, nausea and strong abdominal pain as they expel the tiny body over the course of several days.

That’s why, in denouncing the new law, Students for Life rightly described the experience as “dangerous toilet bowl abortions.”

“If you are a student or employee who is worried how this affects your #consciencerights message us and we will assist you. The fight is not over,” the organization stated on Twitter.

The new law goes into effect in 2023.

“It requires all 34 campuses in the University of California and California State University systems to provide the abortion medication on-campus to women who are less than 10 weeks pregnant,” Fox News reports.

Pro-abortion activists had been trying to pass this for years, but in 2018, then-Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed the legislation, calling the measure “not necessary” and noting that “the average distance to abortion providers in campus communities varies from five to seven miles, not an unreasonable distance.”

But California Gov. Gavin Newsom appeared only too happy to sign SB 24, the latest iteration of the senate bill, earlier this month.

Prior to its passage, pro-life groups had argued the measure would put students in danger because using the medication is prone to complications, some deadly. They also called it a possible liability nightmare for public campuses and argued California schools do not need to be in the abortion business.

They’re right. Guess what happens after a co-ed bleeds out and dies in a dorm bathroom thanks to a campus “health center” doling out the abortion pill? Not only would it be horrific tragedy, but it’s a lawsuit in the making.

Universities are there to educate young people for careers, not pass out abortion pills like candy.

Lila Rose, president of Live Action, put it best when she said on Twitter the new law means “college girls will be self-aborting (forced miscarriage) in their dorms & shared bathrooms. This kills children & is an attack on the dignity & safety of students.”
