College Fix reporter chosen for a National Review William F. Buckley political journalism fellowship

Austin Yack, who recently graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in English, was selected on Friday as a National Review William F. Buckley Political Journalism Fellow.

The annual fellowship, sponsored by the National Review Institute, provides a unique opportunity for recent college graduates to work at National Review magazine for a one-year term.

Yack worked as a student reporter for The College Fix since 2013. His many articles for The College Fix frequently went viral and were also featured on Fox News, Breitbart, The Blaze and many other news outlets.

In the summer of 2015 he served as a College Fix/Student Free Press Association journalism fellow at The Hill. In addition to his experiences reporting, he was active within the California College Republicans leadership, spent the summer of 2014 studying abroad at the University of Cambridge, and served an internship at the Santa Barbara District Attorney’s Office’s Bureau of Investigation.

Yack said being tapped as a William F. Buckley Political Journalism Fellow is a “dream come true.”

“Words can’t describe how excited I am to join one of the most prestigious magazines in the country,” he said.

College Fix editor Jennifer Kabbany said she knows Yack will excel as he pursues a career in political journalism.

“Austin is incredibly smart, talented and driven,” she said. “His reporting for The College Fix over the years was always original, compelling and spot-on, and I know he will thrive under the tutelage of the great minds at National Review.”

Additional William F. Buckley Political Journalism Fellows who have contributed to The College Fix and served as journalism fellows with The Fix’s Student Free Press Association include Ryan Lovelace and Alexandra DeSanctis. Former College Fix contributor Ian Tuttle was also a Buckley journalism fellow.
