Pennsylvania GOP sets up shop at Penn State

The Republican Party of Pennsylvania recently opened a campaign office in downtown State College as part of a statewide effort to secure more Republican victories at state and local levels.

The Central PA RNC Victory Center office officially opened on Aug. 23 at 1315 S. Allen St., Suite 307, above the Centre County Republican Committee office in the same building, said Deb Flavin, secretary and executive director for the Centre County Republican Committee.

The office will serve as the Republican Party headquarters for the entire region of central Pennsylvania, Flavin said.

“The fact that a Victory office is here shows that voters in our county are expected to have a major impact on this year’s elections,” Flavin said.

While Centre County has always had a solid group of GOP volunteers, Flavin said the Victory Center has generated excitement and pulled in some new volunteers.

“It’s exciting. This year everybody is energized,” she said. “We even ran out of yard signs at the Grange Fair.”

The close proximity of the new office to campus will be beneficial for students looking to get involved, as they make up a large part of the campaign efforts, Flavin said.

Though it will only be open during election season, the Victory Center is the go-to place for students from all over Pennsylvania looking to get involved in the Republican campaign, said Anthony Christina, vice chairman of the Penn State College Republicans.
