A professor embodies the toxic politics of pro-choice

How do you make it easier to kill certain humans? Deny that they’re human

Sometimes the pro-abortion mask slips and you see the monstrous, inhuman politics underneath. Asked by The College Fix recently whether or not unborn humans are actually human, Elon University professor Rebecca Todd Peters refused to say. Peters, who has been outspoken about her pro-choice beliefs, told The Fix that the question required “far more substantive reflection and discussion” than she was willing to offer in an email, and that we should refer to her book (how convenient) for “a far more detailed and nuanced discussion” of the matter.

Hogwash. The question of the humanity of the unborn does not require “substantive reflection and discussion;” it is a biological question, purely scientific, requiring no “nuance” whatsoever. It’s even tautological! Of course unborn human beings are human—what else could they be, creamed spinach? Donkeys? This is not an arcane scientific principle known only to embryologists; it is a self-evident scientific fact, well-known for over a century. Why be evasive about it?

Because to admit the humanity of the unborn is to admit something terrible and morally catastrophic: That abortion, currently among progressives one of the most celebrated medical procedures in history, kills human beings—that upwards of, on average, a million people have been killed per year since Roe v. Wade was decided, and that anyone who supports legal abortion is supporting this terrible status quo. If you were pro-choice, you’d probably want to deny it, too; why wouldn’t you?

But it can’t be denied. The medical facts are basic and inarguable; the moral question that follows is obvious and undeniable. Yes, the unborn are human; yes, abortion kills humans. This is not a matter of “nuance;” the reality is simply stark, and clear, and terrible, and impossible to avoid, no matter how much “substantive reflection” you engage in.
