‘The University of Buffalo’s Jacobs School of Medicine is loud and proud about implementing woke policies,’ medical watchdog group said
The University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences earned a high grade for diversity by reconstructing its curriculum and policies to incorporate “anti-racist” principles.
The medical school of the SUNY flagship university announced last year that it was “overhauling” its curricula “to incorporate anti-racism,” The Washington Examiner reported March 29. The school stated the change was prompted by a student petition.
The school implemented a “holistic admissions policy” to ensure diversity, lobbied for DEI at all government levels, and planned to incorporate “equity initiatives” in its curriculum, according to The Examiner.
For these efforts, it earned a score of 90 percent from a survey by the Association of American Medical Colleges. Do No Harm, an anti-woke medical nonprofit, obtained the results and shared them exclusively with The Examiner.
“The University of Buffalo’s Jacobs School of Medicine is loud and proud about implementing woke policies, including elevating ‘anti-racism’ as a core principle of the curriculum,” Do No Harm program manager Laura Morgan told The Examiner.
“Jacobs’s administrators are putting identity politics over medical education, and their push for DEI above all else is seen throughout the school’s DICE Inventory responses,” she said. “The Jacobs School of Medicine should return to producing good doctors instead of engaging in political indoctrination.”
In March 2021, the Department of Surgery in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo launched an “Anti-Racism and Health Care Equity initiative,” including a lecture series featuring Harvard University Professor Cornel West as inaugural speaker, The College Fix reported.
At the event, West discussed systemic racism, recent social movements and their relation to healthcare, according to The Fix.
