WashU students won’t get to hear Al Gore speak

The student government at Washington University in St. Louis has a lot of money to spend on speakers. How much? Earlier this year, they budgeted $92,350 for former Vice President Al Gore to speak on campus, through the College Democrats (the original request had been for $149,850).

All for naught, however, as Gore and the student group could not agree upon a date for the speech. Other speakers this year at the school include Sofia Vergara, John Legend, and Amy Chua — whose combined cost amounts to $105,569.

Vergara will be on television tonight, for free.
