A guide by Women’s Strike organizers sent to college students at hundreds of universities across the nation has given females a battle plan for “A Day Without a Woman” — telling the women to ditch class and avoid shopping, among other advice.
“On International Women’s Day, March 8th, women and our allies will act together for equity, justice and the human rights of women, through a one-day demonstration of economic solidarity,” the guide states.
To that end, organizers advise co-eds in a “Call to Action for Students”:
Do not attend classes on March 8th.
You may find an excuse letter to send your professors explaining your absence here.
Do not shop! Do not patronize. Do not spend any money. Do not eat at restaurants. Supporting local, small businesses are okay.
Wear red in solidarity with those who are striking.
The guide’s “excuse letter” for professors states in part: “Please grant them the opportunity to participate in A Day Without A Woman without penalty. If you identify as a female professor, we invite you to cancel class in observance of the strike as well.”
Beyond March 8, students are encouraged to lobby their university for divestment, and if the university is unresponsive or unsympathetic, they’re advised to host a rally or “sit-in in the Office of the President until he/she agrees to meet with students and pursue a plan of divestment for endowment funds.”
