Anti-Intellectualism at Stanford – Get Shocked

An upcoming conference organized by Stanford University’s Anscombe Society called “Communicating Values: Marriage, Family & the Media” has been dubbed “hate speech” by the college’s graduate-level student government, which refused to allow any of its student fee-funded budget to support the event.

Writing for The Washington Free Beacon, Sonny Bunch weighed in on the situation in the post “Don’t want to debate? Delegitimize your opponent.”

all (students who voted against funding the event) had to fear was … his speech. An argument. An argument that makes them uncomfortable. Those in favor of gay marriage have won. And instead of relitigating any of these arguments, they have chosen to simply delegitimize those who would oppose them. They are bigots not to be taken seriously, charlatans who should be shunned. This sort of anti-intellectualism taking place on the campus of one of our nation’s most esteemed colleges should shock the conscience.

Should. Doesn’t.

Indeed. Get shocked, America. When defending traditional marriage – the basis of our entire society – is deemed hate speech, we’re in big trouble.
