Arizona doubles mandatory gym fees with "strong student consultation"

President Shelton’s tuition proposal, released over spring break, includes a $1,500/semester tuition increase and a $290/semester increase in mandatory fees. The biggest increase is for the Health/Rec/Rock-climbing Wall/Electrolyte Bar fee, which will double to $300. Here’s the justification for that increase:

After strong student consultation, the University proposes an increase of $150 in the student health, wellness, and recreation fee, reflecting the second phase of the planned two-year implementation. This increase has been unanimously endorsed by the Health and Recreation Student Fees student advisory board.

From student votes to biased surveys to asking the students on the fee advisory board itself. In the same way that “UA is moving boldly forward,” student consultation on fees just keeps getting stronger.
