Florida Lowers Standards

Florida has lowered the passing grade for test takers on a state assessment test. Why? Because, you know, not enough people were passing.

More than 70% of students failed to pass the state writing test. So the Florida Department of Education Lowered the needed score from four out of six to three out of six. That’s about the equivalent of changing the passing grade from 66% to 50%.

Well, that’s one way to improve student performance.

Outcome based education is great. It turns failing grades into passing ones by way of bureaucratic magic. It improves students’ self-esteem by making believe they are more capable than they are, and it also makes politicians look better because they don’t have to deal with the fact that students aren’t learning squat in public schools.
