In memoriam: Whitney Ball, ‘constant source of enthusiasm and good advice’

Whitney L. Ball, who founded and led Donors Trust and has been called “one of the conservative movement’s most creative and cheerful freedom fighters,” has died.

“Whitney had battled breast cancer for many years, never letting it distract from her passion for work or from fully enjoying life,” according to a statement issued by Donors Trust. “She had a true passion for protecting and preserving philanthropic intent.”

John J. Miller, chairman and executive director of the Student Free Press Association, notes that Ball gave of her time and talent as a founding board member of SFPA.

“Whitney was one of the best friends of the Student Free Press Association and The College Fix,” Miller said. “She helped me launch the group and was a constant source of enthusiasm and good advice.”

Writing on National Review, Miller adds: “I’ll remember her most for her infectious optimism. It animated her professional life and allowed her to withstand the cancer that finally took her yesterday. At its source was her deep faith, and her belief that death is not an end but a beginning.”
