Judge’s jokes

Apparently one Y chromosome is one too many on the Supreme Court, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg tells Colorado students.

Ginsburg gave a speech at the University of Colorado in Boulder recently in which she supposedly joked there’s too much testosterone on the bench. The Colorado University Independent reports that:

An audience member asked her how she felt about the current number of female Justices on the Supreme Court (three out of nine) and when there would be enough.

“When there are nine female Supreme Court Justices,” Ginsburg said.

Maybe that was tongue-in-cheek; probably not.

According to The Associated Press, “Ginsburg talked mostly about entering the legal profession when there were few female lawyers and even fewer judges.”

“The students roared with laughter when Ginsburg told of scrambling even to find a women’s restroom in law school at Columbia University in the 1950s.

“We never complained, that’s just the way it was,” she said to laughter from the students.

Wonder if Her Honor knows how it is now — it’s gone from few female restrooms at Columbia to men and women sharing them.
