School district investigates teacher who moonlights as ‘Nazi’ wrestler

A Pennsylvania elementary school teacher is currently under investigation for his after-hours gig — that of a Nazi-themed WWF-style wrestler.

Kevin Bean plays the character “Blitzkrieg,” or “The German Juggernaut,” and is known as a “villain” in the World Wide Wrestling Alliance. Upon entering the arena, Bean holds in hand a red, white and black striped flag with a German Iron Cross on it, and yells “Sieg heil, Blitzkrieg” while raising his arm in a Nazi-like salute.

Those in the audience yell things like “Oh, it’s the dumb German,” and “Nobody wants you here.” Anyone familiar with this sort of “wrestling” knows it’s all show — a gag.

But as the Washington Post reports, the founder of the wrestling news site Pro Wrestling Sheet thought Bean’s character and performance were “terrifying” because some in attendance actually were rooting for him:

Now the Spring-Ford Area School District has begun an investigation into Bean’s activities:

“Spring-Ford Area School District was made aware of a video featuring an employee, outside of the school setting, participating in an amateur wrestling event. Once administrators were made aware of the video they acted immediately to conduct an internal investigation. As this is a personnel matter, further details will not be addressed publicly.

“The actions portrayed in this video do not represent the core values of the school district. As an educational organization, we pride ourselves in providing a safe and nurturing learning environment.” …

Bean’s plays the “heel” in wrestling parlance, meaning he is meant to be a villainous character for the crowd to dislike. Throughout its history, wrestling has produced a number of controversial heels including the “The Sheik,” a Syrian character who would enter the ring wearing a Bedouin-style headdress and kneel on a prayer rug before matches. Another Middle Eastern villain that “enraged American fans by flaunting his Arabic heritage” was “The Iron Sheik,” according to World Wrestling Entertainment.

But unlike other heels who are usually greeted by boos, Blitzkrieg appeared to elicit more cheers from the crowd than his opponent, Cody Rose.

“There is nothing entertaining about this and the fact he didn’t get much heat and people cheered him on is just awful,” one person posted on Twitter. Another wrote “Some gimmicks shouldn’t exist and this is one of them.”

Indeed, the report notes a boy held up a sign “BLITZKRIEG RULES!” and some were chanting “USA” and “Trump’s America.” Maybe that’s because, as WWWA president Dino Sanna noted, many of those cheering Bean’s character were his students.

Sanna added that Bean is a loyal church goer who’s a “good guy and not a hateful person.”
