The New Jersey school superintendent who was busted for defecating near the track of one of his high schools has resigned.
Thomas Tramaglini, arrested back in April for his alleged transgressions, will officially be gone September 30 the New York Post reports. On Thursday, the Kenilworth Board of Education said the super’s “antics and the ‘legal fees and expensive litigation’ were cause for his resignation.”
Tramaglini allegedly was caught on camera taking multiple dumps at and around the track at Holmdel High School. He was placed on paid leave pending further investigation.
The super’s lawyer, Matthew Adams, has requested access to the full surveillance video of his client “in action” as only clips have thus far been provided.
“Based on events unrelated to his service for Kenilworth, it has become clear to both Dr. Tramaglini and the Kenilworth Board of Education that his continued service as Superintendent of Schools has become too much of a distraction to the main mission of the district,” the board announced in the bulletin. …
Since the bust, Tramaglini’s legal team has pressed authorities to release the full surveillance videos used to catch him in the act. He plans to sue local police for $1 million for damages and lost wages, according to the Asbury Park Press.
Tramaglini, whose salary was listed as $147,504, took a paid leave of absence following his arrest, the paper reported.
Kenilworth officials said they are hunting for an interim superintendent to fill the role before Tramaglini’s final day.
The Asbury Park Press report quotes Adams as saying “The hallmark of our system of justice is the presumption of innocence. Unless or until proven guilty at trial within the framework established by the rules of evidence, every defendant enjoys that basic, liberty-defining right.”
Tramaglini’s suit claims the police “‘unlawfully photographed’ [him] by taking his mugshot and then [making] it public.” The $1 million in damages/lost wages include “reasonable financial loss of income, harm to reputation, emotional distress, invasion of privacy, and intrusion on seclusion.”
