President Obama: Law School Should Only Last 2 Years

This may be one of those rare occasions when we can say Obama is actually right about an issue:

Inside Higher Ed reports on comments the president made during an appearance at SUNY Binghamton last week:

“This is probably controversial to say, but what the heck, I’m in my second term so I can say it,” Obama said during a stop at the State University of New York at Binghamton. “I believe, for example, that law schools would probably be wise to think about being two years instead of three years because [….] in the first two years young people are learning in the classroom.”

In the third year, he said, “they’d be better off clerking or practicing in a firm, even if they weren’t getting paid that much. But that step alone would reduce the cost for the student.”

HOLY COW! We think America’s overwhelmingly liberal law schools have finally found an Obama opinion they disagree with.

Academic leaders won’t be eager to make law school more affordable, and therefore less lucrative for themselves.

If there’s one thing our nation’s law schools love more than the Democratic party, it’s the almighty dollar.
