Socialist President of Oxford Union Arrested on Rape Charges

The president of the Oxford Union–the famous and illustrious debate society at Oxford University–has been arrested on charges of rape and attempted rape in incidents related to two young women, according to The Daily Mail21-year-old Ben Sullivan is accused of the crimes and has been taken into police custody:

The banker’s son, a third year student whose final exams start next month, was elected unopposed to the illustrious post of president of the Oxford Union and took office last month.

The debating society has been a breeding ground for future prime ministers and politicians since it was founded in 1823, with William Gladstone, Herbert Asquith and Edward Heath among its alumni…

Westminster-born Mr Sullivan – a former pupil at £22,000-a-year St Paul’s in central London – also appears to have political ambitions…

The rape is alleged to have happened in January 2013, while the attempted rape is alleged to have happened a few months later in April…

A fellow student told The Daily Mail that the allegations against Mr. Sullivan seemed “totally out of character.”

Mr. Sullivan seems to be a study in contrasts. As the wealthy son of a banker he has benefited personally from capitalism, but is nevertheless an outspoken advocate of socialism.

The Daily Mail report includes a YouTube video of Mr. Sullivan, in which he can be seen delivering an address in defense of socialism entitled, “Socialism DOES Work.” In his speech, Mr. Sullivan predicts that in the future socialism will become the “dominant” economic system across the globe.
