Student whistleblower to go before campus ‘kangaroo court,’ group says

Have you heard about the female student at Barry University in Florida who secretly recorded administrators agreeing to allow her to form a pro-ISIS group on campus? Yeah, officials don’t like it very much when they’re outed as terrorist sympathizers.

The folks behind the undercover video, Project Veritas, have been vehemently working to defend Laura, an honors student and conservative just weeks away from graduation from the private, Catholic university. She was suspended and accused of violating the school’s code of conduct, among other accusations.

Their press release published Wednesday states “Barry University is preparing a Soviet-style Kangaroo Court in a shameless attempt to save face following the release of a Project Veritas video showing university officials supporting and sanctioning a pro-ISIS club on campus. The sham trial is set to begin tomorrow…”

Dean of Students Maria Alvarez will control the Star Chamber hearing, and incredulously has already cherry-picked the “jury” – which she has refused to publicize in direct violation of Barry’s Code of Conduct. For all intents and purposes, Alvarez is the judge, jury, and executioner in this case and her verdict is in all likelihood already written in stone. The Kangaroo Court she is orchestrating is merely to provide the appearance of justice and due process.

In an affront to justice and decency, Alvarez will present the “ISIS Three” as witnesses during the show trial. Derek Bley, Daisy Santiago, and Freddie Frag will testify against Laura despite their support for the internationally recognized terrorist organization ISIS. Further, Alvarez is not authorizing Laura to present her own witnesses.

It is unclear just how strong support for ISIS is at Barry University; however, Alvarez, President Bevilacqua, and the Board of Trustees have sided with the “ISIS Three” rather than a whistle-blower honors student.

As Edmund Burke once said, “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Here is a clear-cut example of blatant support or willful ignorance towards the pro-ISIS mentality that is permeating Barry University.

“It has become clear that the pro-ISIS sentiment at Barry University is not isolated to a few misguided employees. Indeed, as demonstrated by the University’s staunch support of the ‘ISIS Three’ the support for ISIS may in fact be systematic at Barry University,” said a Project Veritas spokesman. “It would behoove Barry University to call off the show trial against Laura, which lacks even a scintilla of legitimacy, and address the fact that they apparently have administrators, professors, and deans, sympathetic to ISIS.”
