Three People Shot Near University of Tennessee

Student at the University of Tennessee were on high alert last night after the university sent a security alert to the entire campus.

Three individuals were reportedly shot in the Fort Sanders neighborhood near UT.

The university sent out the following emergency message at about 8:30pm:

Subject: UT Alert!

A person with a firearm was reported to be in the vicinity of 13th and Highland Ave. The person is described as a black male accompanied by 3 other black males, all wearing dark hooded sweatshirts. Police are investigating. Take precautions for your safety if you are near this area. Contact UT Police at 865-974-3111 immediately if you observe suspicious activity. Updates will be provided as soon as additional information is available.

Do not try to engage the suspect. If you witness aggressive behavior or feel your safety is threatened follow the procedures for active shooter.

If outdoors: go to the nearest safe place immediately.

If in a building:

Lock and barricade yourself in a room

Stay away from doors and windows

Eliminate signs that the room is occupied

Silence cell phones.

As a last resort, and only if your life is in danger, attempt to incapacitate the shooter. RUN, HIDE, FIGHT
