Oldest Catholic university removes pro-abortion, pro-LGBT guide in response to petition

Georgetown University is the oldest Catholic institution of higher education in America, but you wouldn’t have believed it after a recent glance at its law school’s website.

TFP Student Action, a part of the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property, launched a petition to get a resource guide with links to pro-choice and pro-LGBT groups removed from the Georgetown Law Library website, CBN News reports.

The library had published a guide on the history of civil rights in America that included a link to support different groups. These groups included Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-Choice America, EMILY’s List, the ACLU and the Southern Poverty Law Center, among others.

TFP’s petition garnered more than 13,000 signatures, and Georgetown removed the list from its website.

The page can be viewed in its entirety on the Internet Archive. A version archived more than a year ago includes a section titled “Organizations You can Support [sic]” and recommends donating to them:

One way to resist oppression is to strengthen the organizations that fight against oppressors. You can make a change, even if it’s just an hour a week or a dollar a week. If we all give just a little, it adds up and it keeps our civil rights, our environment – our nation – from being destroyed. You can give your support to the following organizations via a donation of your time and efforts or a monetary contribution.

Tanya Weinberg, the director of law and media relations for Georgetown Law, told CBN News: “This guide was not consistent with the Law Library’s research practices and was removed. Georgetown’s Law Library research practices discourage any advocacy and promote objective, fact-based research.”

The petition also called on Georgetown to remove Zoe Segal-Reichlin, a law professor, from the faculty. The professor also works for Planned Parenthood as its senior associate general counsel and director of advocacy and political law.

“Don’t you think Georgetown should know better? Especially being the oldest Catholic university in America?” the petition reads.
