‘Nazi’ wrestler teacher gets to keep education gig

A Pennsylvania elementary school teacher who moonlights as a “Nazi” wrestler will keep his job.

The Spring-Ford Area School District had launched an investigation into Kevin Bean’s off-hours entertainment gig, that of a WWF-style villain, due to its questionable theme. Bean’s character is known as “Blitzkrieg,” or “The German Juggernaut.”

Though anybody familiar with this sort of “wrestling” knows such caricatures are pure entertainment and complete gags, the founder of a wrestling news website took offense that some in the audience had actually cheered for Bean’s character. The president of the World Wide Wrestling Alliance noted that perhaps those supporting Bean were some of his students.

The district had said in a statement that Bean’s character’s actions “do not represent the core values of the school district.”

But now its investigation is complete, and Bean will keep his teaching position.

Philly.com reports:

“Based on the investigation completed, we have found no evidence indicating violation of board policies by Mr. Bean,” David R. Goodin, the superintendent of the Spring-Ford Area School District, wrote in a letter to parents that was obtained by multiple media outlets and confirmed by the district. “As such, Mr. Bean will continue to remain a teacher within the district.” …

“The character I portrayed did not reflect my personal feelings or beliefs, and I do apologize to those in the community who were offended by such actions,” Bean wrote in the letter to parents. “I have spent many years working in the Spring-Ford community, and pride myself in providing an exceptional education to my students over the course of 14 years.”

Bean could not be reached for comment, and it’s unclear if he is continuing to wrestle in the WWWA. Bean’s character is no longer listed on the wrestling organization’s website, and the video of his Quakertown match has been removed from the organization’s YouTube channel.

According to Daily Local News, there is no provision governing school district employee behavior that Bean had violated. Nevertheless, Superintendent David Goodin noted in a letter to parents that “there may be an emotional impact for some parents, students and community members who may have lingering concerns.”
