Police ignore requests for comment, including why there is no initial report
The University of Oklahoma quietly closed an investigation into the theft of Turning Point USA signs and now says there are no records for the promised inquiry.
Back in October 2025, the school’s president vowed to investigate videos of students removing signs promoting a TPUSA event on campus. The campus club posted multiple videos of various students removing signs, including one who bragged about taking 56 of them.
“We are aware of reports of removal of signs. OUPD is actively investigating those incidents,” the school wrote on X in a statement attributed to President Joseph Harroz.
Yet when the College Fix sought records months later, the school said it had nothing on the investigation.
“There are no responsive records regarding your request,” the open records office wrote in an April 15 message. A staffer in the office said she could not provide any further information when reached that same day by phone.
“Anything that is through OUPD would go through our office, but…there were no responsive records,” the open records office told The Fix. “OUPD has no record of an incident having occurred.”
In a subsequent statement to The Fix, the University of Oklahoma said: “The matter was transferred to our Office of Student Conduct and handled through our established processes.”
The university has not responded to attempts to clarify the status of the Office of Student Conduct process, and if any disciplinary actions were taken.
The campus police have also dodged questions about the incident.
A public information officer told The Fix several weeks ago he would “see what I can find out for you,” but has not responded to multiple follow-up attempts. The Fix left another voicemail on May 19.
Media relations has also not responded to multiple requests for comment, including voicemails left in the past several weeks.
Various videos show clear sign theft, as previously reported by The College Fix:
One video shows a TPUSA student confronting three females as they walk, asking why they ripped the group’s signs out of the ground. “I did throw one of their signs. I admit to that,” one student says.
Another video shows a different student admitting to taking down “56 signs,” claiming the goal was “keeping the campus beautiful day and night.”
In a third video, a female is shown trampling a sign to the ground.
A fourth video shows a TPUSA student confronting an individual for allegedly tearing up one of the signs. The video does not show the incident itself.
In one video, a student says he is practicing free speech.
“Those aren’t yours,” a TPUSA member tells a student.
“It’s freedom of speech really,” the student says, when asked why he is removing the signs.
“It’s a symbolic way of freedom of speech,” the sign stealer says.
