New York Rep. Elise Stefanik and the Truman Scholarship Clean House Act

A bill that seeks to reform the Truman Scholarship Program’s overwhelmingly liberal bias “could soon be brought before the floor for a final vote,” the Daily Signal reported, citing an unnamed House committee spokesperson.

“A key House committee is moving forward with efforts to reform a federally funded scholarship program after extensive reporting from The College Fix uncovered the program’s overwhelming liberal bias,” the news outlet reported July 6:

“Unfortunately, what started as a scholarship program to help cultivate our nation’s leaders has become a pipeline for liberal activists,” a committee spokesperson told the Daily Signal. “The Truman Foundation is receiving millions in taxpayer money, but it clearly promotes only one political viewpoint.”

“We hope to see leadership take this bill to the floor so we can correct this wrong and finally return the program to its intended mission,” the committee spokesperson added.

If enacted, Stefanik’s legislation would reform the taxpayer-funded scholarship by reshaping the scholarship’s board of directors while reforming its selection criteria and strategy.

As The College Fix previously reported, the “Truman Scholarship Clean House Act” was introduced after annual research conducted by The College Fix found that of the 653 winners from 2015 to 2025, only 29 conservative recipients were identified compared to 397 liberals, based on their public bios, LinkedIn profiles, and social media accounts.

The Fix’s research also showed how the program is a left-wing talent pipeline, as it spawns Democratic and progressive careers over Republican and conservative ones by a margin of 35 to 1.
