Report identifies employee as social work professor’s daughter

A Florida State University graduate student and former employee of the school has been charged with battery after allegedly shoving a Jewish student at a campus gym last week.

The incident was caught on video, and both The Jerusalem Post and the group Stop Antisemitism identified the individual as Eden Deckerhoff, the daughter of Professor Rosalyn Deckerhoff, who teaches in the university’s College of Social Work.

Neither Eden Deckerhoff nor the professor immediately responded to requests for comment from The College Fix via email and social media, asking about the incident and their reported relationship.

The 23-year-old is banned from campus and no longer employed at the university; she also is facing a misdemeanor battery charge, WCTV Eyewitness News reports:

She was charged following an investigation into the confrontation conducted on Thursday, just a day after the incident, according to court papers.

Law enforcement reviewed the now-viral footage of the confrontation, which court records revealed occurred inside the Leach Recreational Center.

The video showed a woman, later identified as Deckerhoff, and a man, later identified as a Florida State student, in frame. Court records identify Deckerhoff as a “current FSU employee,” but an FSU spokesperson clarified Tuesday that she is a former employee.

The footage went on to show Deckerhoff flipping off the student who appeared to be filming the video in the recreation center, per court records. She was also heard in the video making a statement laced with profanity aimed at Israel.

Court papers went on to say that the video also showed Deckerhoff appearing “to hit the male’s shoulder area while attempting to reach for his beverage on the table.” Just before the video concluded, the student was observed leaning back “in a defensive manner as if he was pushed by the female [Deckerhoff].”

The public university banned Deckerhoff from campus after Stop Antisemitism posted a video of the incident last week on X. It shows a female shoving a Jewish student and saying, “F— Israel, free Palestine,” according to the Post.

The university issued a statement last week stating that the student in the video was banned from campus while authorities conducted an investigation. The statement did not name the student.

“Florida State University is actively addressing an altercation between two students that has been widely shared on social media,” the university stated. “The FSU Police Department has interviewed the students shown in the video. The matter is being reviewed for potential criminal charges and for charges under the FSU Student Code of Conduct.”

The university also is providing support services to the victim, according to the statement.

“Our commitment to swiftly and effectively responding to incidents of hate is unwavering. We appreciate the prompt report of this incident, which allowed us to address this instance of antisemitism without delay,” it stated.

The Jewish student targeted in the video was wearing an “Israel Defense Forces” T-shirt at the time of the incident, The Washington Times reports:

“F—- Israel, free Palestine,” the female student said on the video posted by StopAntisemitism on X as she flipped him off. “Put it on f—-ing Barstool FSU. I really don’t give a f—-. You’re an ignorant f——— son of a b——.”

The woman then lunges at the man and knocks something out of his hand, presumably a cellphone.

StopAntisemitism said the “assault warrants an immediate expulsion,” and Rep. Randy Fine, Florida Republican, agreed.

“As a member of the U.S. House Education and Workforce Committee, I am personally calling @FloridaState to ensure it is done,” said Mr. Fine on X.

The lawmaker also said the university told him the student was “suspended until an expulsion hearing.”

“THIS is how you deal with antisemitism. Immediately. And with swift discipline,” Fine wrote. “Other universities take note.”

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi also praised the university for taking swift action in a post on X. Bondi said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon has launched an investigation into the incident.

Editor’s note: This story has been updated to include the charge that Deckerhoff is facing. The report also includes new information identifying her as a former employee of the university.
