Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has canceled a Cornell University-related event amid the gang rape allegations lodged against one of the Ivy League institution’s frat houses.

Pelosi abruptly canceled her appearance at a Cornell Institute of Politics and Global Affairs event in New York City, the Cornell Daily Sun reported Oct. 1.

“The cancelation of the New York City event was ‘related to the gang rape situation’ currently occuring at the University, according to a source familiar with the matter,” the Sun reported, adding:

The event, marketed as an “opportunity to hear from and engage” with Pelosi, was planned for Oct. 15 at the ILR NYC Conference Center, and was sent to students by the Cornell IOPGA on Tuesday afternoon, according to an email obtained by The Sun.

On Wednesday afternoon, though, the RSVP form was closed and the IOPGA said the event was canceled, according to a subsequent email obtained by The Sun.

Cornell is reeling from allegations that in 2024 a female undergrad was plied with drugs and sexually assaulted by numerous men at the Chi Phi fraternity house, and campus officials have been accused in a new lawsuit of negligence.

“On Thursday, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) signed an executive order to appoint state Attorney General Letitia James (D) as the special prosecutor in this case, citing “serious concerns” with how Cornell’s police department and Van Houten handled the original investigation,” The Hill reported.
