Ohio College Democrats say Trump ‘not welcome’ in key battleground state

Say Trump’s rhetoric is ‘non-inclusive’

The ever important electoral swing state of Ohio was the site of the kick off of “Make Campus Great Again,” part of the re-election campaign of President Donald Trump, but the event prompted left-wing student activists to declare the president is “not welcome” in the Buckeye State.

The kickoff was held at the University of Akron, and had student attendees from numerous other Ohio colleges and universities, the Daily Wire’s Ashe Schow reported. In response, the College Democrats of Ohio issued a lengthy statement condemning their political rivals.

“In the wake of Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee’s launch of their nationwide campus initiative, the College Democrats of Ohio are standing together to say Donald Trump’s non-inclusive, hate-filled rhetoric is not welcome in the state of Ohio,” the statement reads.

The organization cited Trump’s policies relating to Title IX enforcement and also claimed that the administration was siding with for-profit colleges as examples of the administration “working consistently to attack the interests of college students.”

“Trump’s approval rating in Ohio is in the toilet and the Trump campaign knows that a loss in Ohio in 2020 would be disastrous for his re-election chances,” the statement continued. “They are running scared and desperately trying to shore up support among young voters with a bogus campaign program.”

In her report for the Daily Wire, Schow reported that RNC spokeswoman Mandi Merritt said that the Democrats’ statement “proves our point that freedom of thought is being suppressed on campuses across America.”

“The ‘Make Campus Great Again’ program is giving students the support and resources they need to stand up and speak up when Leftists threaten to shut down free think,” Merritt said.

RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel was also quoted in Schow’s story.

“Freedom of thought is being suppressed in college classrooms across America,” McDaniel said. “Conservative students, in particular, are being bullied by liberal professors and peers to either submit to the socialist, Leftist ideology or sit quietly. The RNC and our joint ‘Trump Victory’ operation launched ‘Make Campus Great Again’ to give students the support and resources they need to stand up and speak up.”
