Adam Andrzejewski / Open The Books

The nonprofit Open The Books is rolling out its inaugural $25,000 investigative journalism scholarship for students in honor of its late founder and chief executive officer Adam Andrzejewski.

Andrzejewski passed away unexpectedly in 2024 at the age of 55.

“Adam’s belief in the power of transparency to transform government and hold it accountable at every level is the driving force behind our work. His relentless pursuit of open records and forensic auditing has set new standards in the fight for government transparency,” according to the group.

The new scholarship is available to a high school junior or senior, or college student, “who demonstrates exceptional leadership in advancing financial transparency and public accountability in their school or community,” a news release stated.

The Adam Andrzejewski Memorial Scholarship asks applicants to “share how they’ve worked to make institutions more open and accountable—or how they plan to.”

The goal is to help find “the next generation of watchdogs.”

Applicants must answer one of four essay prompts focused on either “Transparency in Action,” “Carrying the Torch,” “The Power of Accountability,” or “Roadmap to Reform.”

For more information, visit Open The Books’ website. The deadline to apply is June 30.
