For $169, you, too, can own a sex toy like the one used in a demonstration last week for Prof. John Michael Bailey’s Human Sexuality class.

As the Daily Northwestern reported, last Monday around 120 students stuck around after class for an optional demo of a sex toy, called a “fucksaw.” The 600-person class, the Daily noted, is notorious for controversial—and optional—after-class guests.

Most of those panels, though, don’t involve naked people on stage. In this instance, according to the Chicago Tribune, a guest lecturer narrated as a woman—unclothed—and her male partner (neither of them students) took the stage. The guy on stage proceeded to penetrate her, with “a device that looks like a machine-powered saw with a phallic object instead of a blade,” the Tribune reported. Or, more succinctly, from the Daily: “a motorized phallus.”

The demonstration came in the context of a conversation about sex toys and female orgasms—the latter of which was apparently achieved. So far, the administration and student groups have registered surprise, but no serious outcry yet (aside from another Northwestern-related Gawker post—apparently NU’s multiple Gawker appearances prove that we’re “America’s Greatest University”).

Bailey did not wish to comment to the Chronicle, but he did pass along this statement.
