Student accused of assaulting College Republican releases rap song in response

The Stanford University student accused of assaulting a member of the College Republicans back in October has released a rap tune in response to the incident.

During the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court hearings, Melissa Hernandez allegedly took offense at a table set up by the Stanford College Republicans. CR President John Rice-Cameron said Hernandez pushed him after he began filming her when she (allegedly) attempted to trash a CR sign.

Some of the CR signs had read “Stanford College Republicans stands with Brett Kavanaugh,” “Kavanaugh is innocent until proven guilty,” and “change my mind.”

Rice-Cameron said “[Hernandez] comes up and puts her hand on the sign as if she’s going to rip it up, so I take out my phone and record her, and she said, ‘Why the fuck are you recording me?’ In an attempt to defuse the situation, I put the phone away.”

The CR president pressed, then ultimately dropped, charges against Hernandez.

In response to the CRs describing her as a “violent, unhinged leftist [who] can’t be tamed,” Hernandez uploaded her song “Testimony” to SoundCloud two days ago (apparently under the pseudonym “Linda Sol”).

The Stanford Daily reports that upon release of the song, Hernandez posted on Instagram “What was a small push was made to be a brutal attack. Republicans across the country sat behind their computers and called me a thug, a violent leftist, a delusional liberal, etc. I’ve sat in silence the past few weeks, unable to clear my name because I had no legal representation.”

“TESTIMONY, THIS IS MY TESTIMONY! TESTIMONY, THIS IS MY TESTIMONY! TESTIMONY, THIS MY TESTIMONY! TESTIMONY, THIS IS MY — UH!”

From the story:

In public Instagram and Facebook posts, Hernandez posted screenshots of headlines from Fox News and other outlets.

“With all the news it made, I think [Rice-Cameron] did this for the fame,” Hernandez raps in her song, adding that “now [he] want[s] to talk about civility: fake fragility, just for publicity.”

Hernandez characterizes Rice-Cameron — referred to in the song by his initials, “JRC” — as looking “proud” after calling the police at the tabling event. She also speculates that Rice-Cameron’s mother Susan Rice, a former Obama national security advisor and United Nations ambassador, would agree that Rice-Cameron sought fame in his case. Rice recently insinuated on Twitter that she was considering a run to unseat Senator Susan Collins, a Maine Republican who voted in favor of Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

The other SCR member named in the song is Ben Esposito ’21, who appeared on The Ingraham Angle two days after the alleged assault. He told host Laura Ingraham that Hernandez “hit [Rice-Cameron] and pushed him back” because “she was upset at John for filming her ripping these flyers.”

In her song, Hernandez addresses Esposito directly in a spoken coda.

“Ben, you know you’re lying on that Fox News interview,” she says. “I did not tear down any posters, and I did not hit anyone. Fuck is you talking about.”

Esposito told the Daily he holds “no ill will” towards Hernandez, pointing out he refused to name her on national TV.

“But what I said was the truth and has been confirmed by multiple witnesses.”
