UW Madison club has received $1.1 million in student fees for similar events over past decade
A student club at the University of Wisconsin at Madison plans to host a “paddle painting” event for HIV and AIDS Awareness Week after facing criticism for spending more than $1.1 million in student fees on brash and explicit sexual programs.
The event, scheduled for Thursday, is a project of Sex Out Loud, a student organization officially recognized by the public university.
“Wrap up HIV & AIDS Awareness Week with Paddle Painting Night with Free Rapid HIV Testing!” Sex Out Loud wrote on its Instagram page. “Paint your own paddle, get tested, and be creative. All supplies provided!”
The wooden paddles depicted in the event ad coincide with the group’s promotion of “kink” and “BDSM.” The student group also distributes sex toys and hosts presentations on topics such as “ethical porn” and masturbation.
The club has received more than $1.1 million in student fees over the past decade, a College Fix analysis found earlier this year.
“Shockingly, segregated fees are supposed to go towards things that support the mission of the UW System. If this is the mission, then we need to rethink all taxpayer dollars that UW System receives,” Wisconsin Senate President Mary Felzkowski told The Fix at the time.
However, UW Madison is not the only campus where audacious sexual behavior is being promoted.
This week, Northeastern University’s SHARE, a student organization, is hosting an “erotic” Christmas cookie decorating event on campus.
“We will be decorating delicious sugar cookies as penises and vulvas!!” the group wrote on Instagram. The event also will include a discussion about “erotic art” and “anatomy practice!”
On its website, the Boston university student organization has a “resources” page that includes an “abortion finder” and sections on “erotica and smut,” “polyamory,” and “kink.”
