Writes poem, delivers it on mic, feels regret after massive backlash

Facing national backlash, a foreign college student apologized for writing and reciting a poem that mocked the brutal assassination of Turning Point USA CEO Charlie Kirk.

Isa Casahuga, a student at the University of Texas-San Antonio, recited a poem about a “shot to the neck” celebrating the “Kirkiversary,” which is a term leftists use to celebrate the assassination of Kirk, a husband and father of two. She also mocked Christian Collins, who was engaging with students at a table much like Kirk did, for not wearing a “neck brace” during the Sept. 23 event. While the event happened last month, Collins only posted a video of it on Oct. 27.

During her poem, Casahuga stated:

Twas the night before the Kirkiversary/And all through the house/Not a creature was stirring/Not even a mouse/The flags were hung proudly/the memes all on deck/as we solemnly remembered a shot to the neck/The podcast fell silent/The hot takes grew weary/For tomorrow dear friends is the great Kirkiversary.

Asked by Collins if she was “happy” with herself, Casahuga said “Baby, I’m thrilled.”

The video, posted on Oct. 27 by Collins, led to backlash against Casahuga. The University of Texas system also said it was investigating the matter

Casahuga apologized to Collins, who hosted the event, and the Kirk family for her “deeply insensitive comments.”

She said she came to her decision after “prayer” and “reflection.”

“I understand why my words caused so much pain and I take full accountability for them,” Casahuga said.

Many commentators on X questioned the sincerity of her comments, however.
