Concordia University in Wisconsin approved a new Turning Point USA after a viral social media post criticized the school for delaying the club for two years.
President Jacob Turner said he had tried get the club approved at the Lutheran school in Mequon, but faced denial. “Bureaucracy and stonewalling made me give up at one point,” he wrote on X.
He said he resubmitted the application recently because he felt inspired by the work of the late Charlie Kirk.
“But after Charlie’s passing, I found a fire I’ve never felt before. There’s a real revival happening on my campus,” Turner wrote on X Wednesday.
He said the school denied his group because his group will not “denounce the Professor Watchlist – an educational tool that lets students know who the marxist professors are so they can plan their courseload accordingly.”
The post went viral, boosted by a reply from Elon Musk. Wisconsin Republican Congressman Derrick Van Orden also criticized the university publicly. In total, there were around 3 million views on the post.
By Thursday morning, Turner said the school had reversed course and approved the application.
“We’re now ready to get to work immediately on registering voters, standing for dialogue, and carrying forward the mission of truth on campus,” Turner wrote on X.
“Way to stand firm,” TPUSA executive Tyler Bowyer wrote in response.

The university provided a statement on the matter, as reported by Fox 6 in Milwaukee. The school said “the Student Organization Committee reviewed the application, engaged with the student applicant, and determined that the chapter may move forward.”
“This is the same process used for all requests to establish a nationally affiliated club or organization seeking official recognition at Concordia University Wisconsin,” the university told the media.
The university, which sits north of Milwaukee, has previously faced criticism after it sanctioned a professor who criticized “woke dysphoria” at the school.
“My Concordia university is experiencing dysphoria because it is coming under the influence of Woke-ism (that is, a potent cocktail of Progressivism, Neo-Pragmatism, and Marxism),” Professor Schulz wrote two in 2022, in a piece called “Woke Dysphoria at Concordia.”
He settled with the university after a new president started, as reported by The College Fix.
