‘How are white people not extinct?’ is a ‘thesis level question’ for residence life director

UPDATED

‘Really improves my mood’

The internet is full of gross-out videos by people of all races. But one of them prompted the residence life director at Sarah Lawrence College to ponder the academic question of why descendants of Caucasians are still roaming the earth.

Myra McPhee tweeted “How are white people not extinct?” in quoting a segment of Viceland’s Desus & Mero program titled “Gross Home Remedies.”

She thanked co-host The Kid Mero “for asking thesis level questions” about white people’s continued existence. The show “really improves my mood.” (McPhee marked her Twitter account private Tuesday after this post was published.)

The June 7 segment includes a video of a white woman explaining the health benefits of drinking dog urine.

“Many of you have asked me how I always look so good, how my makeup always looks so perfect, or how I always have this natural glow. Here’s my secret,” the unidentified woman says in the video while holding a dog on a leash.

The Desus & Mero hosts watch in horror as the woman places a cup under the dog as it apparently urinates. “Bruh, she’s filling up … a cup of dog piss?” The Kid Mero asks. “WHAT?!”

“Nah, nah, nah, nah … AHH!” he continues as the woman slowly drinks the entire cup: “Yo, how are white people not extinct?!” The production staff off-camera laughs at this remark.

“Until I first drank my dog’s pee, I was depressed, I was sad and I had really bad acne,” the woman in the video continues. “Dog pee also has Vitamin A in it, it has Vitamin B in it, and it has 10 grams of calcium.” The Kid Mero interjects: “It has Vitamin P, [n-word]!”

Sarah Lawrence’s McPhee “oversees staff and programs for all residential communities on campus,” according to the private college’s residence life page. “She leads her team in community development initiatives that help Sarah Lawrence students feel at home.”

She previously led strategic planning and leadership development at Michigan State University, served in the State Department, and “participated as an actor in theater productions of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered SuicideVagina Monologues, and the social justice initiative Tunnel of Oppression,” according to her bio. “As an alum of the Social Justice Training Institute, Myra considers herself to be someone who is eager to address issues of injustice.”

The College Fix has asked media relations and residence life at Sarah Lawrence College for comment on whether McPhee was saying white people’s continued existence is worthy of academic inquiry; whether seeing white people mocked is what “improves my mood”; whether the tweet is appropriate for an administrative staffer who interacts with students of all races in a non-academic context; and how the college would respond if a white staffer had approvingly quoted a segment asking “How are black people not extinct?” because of a gross-out video.

Neither office has responded as of late Tuesday.

UPDATE: McPhee marked her Twitter account private Tuesday after this post was published, meaning only approved Twitter users can see her tweets. The college has yet to respond to Fix inquiries.
