A recently released trove of personal memos penned by Dr. Anthony Fauci between December 2019 through December 2022 reveal that he quite enjoyed how progressive college students considered him some sort of rock star at the height of the COVID lockdowns, a review by The College Fix shows.
The so-called 1,141-page Fauci Dairy was published Saturday by Republican Sen. Rand Paul, chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, as part of his ongoing investigation into the origins and circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and the taxpayer-funded research behind it.
The personal memos reveal the insights of the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases amid the pandemic, during which he called for mandatory vaccines, lockdowns, school and business shutdowns, social distancing, and mask wearing to help stem the spread of the virus — all efforts applauded and celebrated at the time by Democrats, the mainstream media, and progressives.
Fauci appeared to enjoy the adoration of his college fans, according to some entries.
An April 2021 entry labeled “Terrific experience tonight” details how on an evening walk through American University “we were met by throngs of American University students who [were] illegally sitting on the grass enjoying themselves.”
“In groups of three to five people they kept coming up to me wanting to get photographs and selfies,” Fauci wrote. “It was truly amazing as it went on for group after group after group. I must have posed for photographs with over 50 young kids from American University.”
Similarly, in another entry, he wrote:
Chris and I (with the detail) went for our Sunday walk on the Mall as opposed to the Canal … we ran into groups of students who had just had their graduation ceremony from George Washington University on the Mall. A few recognized me and started squealing and laughing as asking for selfies, which I gave them. Then more and more people gathered around and soon we had the same sort of crowd around me as has happened at AU …
Another entry from June 2022 recounts the “glorious” time Fauci wrote that he had at College of the Holy Cross, which renamed a science building after him.
“The outpouring of love, affection, and admiration on the part of the students and the faculty at Holy Cross was very moving,” he wrote.
Underscoring the autograph and photo sessions, Fauci saved for his memoirs a photo of a tattoo sent to him by an Arizona State University student who told him: “This year has been tough, but I got the vaccine. I wanted to thank Dr Fauci for all his hard work and to commemorate this modern marvel I got a tattoo. I hope you enjoy.”
The image is of two needles in an X shape with the words: “VAXX ME UP DR. FAUCI.”
In addition to documenting his college fandom, Fauci fixated on his overall fame as well, The Washington Times reported.
He “was obsessed with how much media attention he was getting,” the Times reported, adding “he marveled at his domination of the newspapers and, in particular, their willingness to side with him over President Trump.”
