The downtown Miami location is pending final approval by the state

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has proposed a spot formerly on the Miami Dade College campus as the location of Donald Trump’s presidential library.

On Tuesday, DeSantis announced the 2.63-acre plot will be presented to the Board of Trustees of Florida’s Internal Improvement Trust Fund for approval during its Sept. 30 meeting, Just the News reports.

A day earlier, the college’s Board of Trustees voted to “transfer ownership” of the land to the state, “making it possible to dedicate the land to the project,” according to CBS News.

The location is right next to the Freedom Tower in Miami, a site that Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier described as “a symbol of freedom, a beacon of liberty for the rest of the country.”

The tower once served as a kind of Ellis Island of the South, where “Cuban families arrived here fleeing the terrors of communism,” he said in a video on X.

“I can think of no better location to tell the story of Donald Trump — a story of strength, one of redemption, one of victory and one of sacrifice to the American people,” Uthmeier said in the video.

The attorney general said he has been working on the project with the Trump Library Foundation.

Currently, the land is being used as an employee parking lot for Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus, according to a news release from the governor’s office.

“President Trump has achieved results for the American people and made a lasting impact on our nation’s history,” DeSantis stated in the news release. “No state has better delivered the President’s agenda than the Free State of Florida, and we would be honored to house his presidential library here in his home state.”

If approved, it would be the first presidential library in Florida, according to Just the News

Previously, a number of other higher education institutions also had been mentioned as potential library sites, including Florida Atlantic University, Florida International University, and the University of Pennsylvania, Trump’s alma mater, The College Fix previously reported.

Florida is Trump’s primary state of residence.

Currently, the U.S. has 16 presidential libraries overseen by the National Archives. A few others operate independently.

Several are housed at universities. The Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library, for example, is at Mississippi State University. Lyndon Johnson’s is located on the University of Texas at Austin campus, and Gerald Ford’s library is at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
