The next Obama: Liberal constitutional law professor running for Congress

You want a professor who supports toking up, abolishing the death penalty and pushing through “marriage equality”?

Then Jamie Raskin is your man for Maryland’s 8th congressional district.

The Eagle reports the American University constitutional law professor, a current Maryland state senator, has thrown his hat in the ring for the seat held by Rep. Chris Van Hollen, who is vacating to run for the seat of retiring Sen. Barbara Mikulski.

Raskin has taught courses in constitutional law and American politics at [AU’s Washington College of Law] since 1990. He currently teaches a courses [sic] on legislative process and a course on political rhetoric and constitutional law. He says he’s meeting with the school’s dean soon to figure out a schedule that could work while he campaigns next year.

“It would be hard for me to leave AU on a full time basis, but I feel that my connections to the University are strong and enduring, and it will always be an essential part of my identity,” he said.
