Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion will make $190,000 salary, joins 12+ other diversity employees

A new diversity position at Ohio University will pull down almost a fifth of a million dollars per year, joining more than twelve other employees in the school’s diversity complex several months after the passage of a new tuition hike at the school.

Gigi Secuban, the former associate vice chancellor and director of the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, will join Ohio University later this summer as its first vice president for diversity and inclusion, the student newspaper The Post reports.

Secuban, who holds a  bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in health science and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Arkansas, “look[s] forward to working with the Diversity and Inclusion team to build on the great foundations they’ve put in place to help all students, staff and faculty excel,” she said in a press release.

Secuban’s duties include “serving as the chief diversity officer for all OU campuses, direct the diversity and inclusion programs and centers, advance the campus climate and collaborate with academic deans about the diversity plan and vision,” according to The Post.

The new diversity officer will make $190,000 a year, according to the report. She joins a staff of thirteen other employees in the school’s Office for Diversity and Inclusion.

Ohio University’s Board of Trustees recently approved a 1.3 percent tuition hike, as well as “a 3.5 percent increase in residential housing rates on the Athens campus as part of an annual plan, as well as a 2 percent increase in rates of campus culinary services,” The Post reported earlier this year.
