Prof calls NRA ‘terrorists,’ brags about not ‘giving a sh**’ because he has tenure

After the May 18 school shooting in Sante Fe, Texas, a professor of Medieval Studies at Virginia Tech called the National Rifle Association a “terrorist organization” and then bragged about “not giving a shit” because he’s “a white guy with tenure” after being asked for further comment.

Matt Gabriele added that he’s “armed with a supportive employer.”

According to Fox News, Virginia Tech didn’t actually explicitly state that; however, school spokesperson Tracy Vosburgh said that Gabriele’s tweet “doesn’t represent the university.”

“Mr. Gabriele’s views are his and his alone,” Vosburgh said. “Any comment on his statement should come from him.”

Fox notes the prof has tweeted out other controversial messages such as “The modern GOP is nothing but white supremacy” and “writing people support President Trump because ‘his racism spoke to them.’”

Last year, Gabriele was one of the planners of a “Crusades and Alt Right” symposium as he believes “the crusades have been misunderstood and misused throughout history to advance xenophobic nationalism.”

To that, Richard Bland College of William and Mary history professor Daniel Franke countered that Gabriele “misrepresents what many historians actually think about the Crusades and creates a narrative that winds up rewriting the past.”
