Local college ‘adult education manager’: ‘You gotta grab a gun! ICE agents gotta get shot and wiped out!’
There certainly was no shortage of … entertaining progressive activists at this past Saturday’s various “No Kings” rallies. However, two particular activists arguably went way overboard.
At a Chicago-area rally, elementary school teacher Lucy Martinez was caught on video mockingly making a gesture akin to being shot in the neck, mimicking how Charlie Kirk was assassinated. The Daily Mail reports Martinez’s antics ultimately led to Nathan Hale Elementary School shutting down its website and social media presence.
Early Monday afternoon, a fake message attributed to Nathan Hale Principal Dawn Iles-Gómez claimed Martinez and other activists were “provoked,” and that Martinez made her gesture “in a moment of emotion.”

However, a genuine message from Iles-Gómez wasn’t much better. Corey DeAngelis reports on X the principal noted Chicago police were investigating possible social media threats against Martinez.
“I know that this has been an unsettling day for many in our school community, but I want assure everyone that learning is continuing to move on for all students,” Iles-Gómez wrote. She also noted the school was deluged with phone calls “from beyond [the] school community,” and that the school website and X account will remain inactive due to “inappropriate language by individuals not connected” to the school.
According to U.S. News & World Report, Nathan Hale Elementary’s student body is almost 80 percent Hispanic and 66 percent “economically disadvantaged.” Only 23 percent of its students are proficient in reading.
The Post Millennial reports neither Martinez nor the Chicago Public Schools have responded to requests for comment. The district also has yet to address the matter in general.
Also at a Windy City rally, Wilbur Wright College Adult Education Manager Moises Bernal screamed to a crowd that “ICE agents gotta get shot and wiped out.”
Bernal yelled “You gotta grab a gun!” and “We gotta turn around the guns on this fascist system!” before making his call to off immigration enforcement personnel.

Oddly enough, Bernal deleted his Linkedin and X accounts shortly thereafter. In the former, Bernal noted he used “they/them” and “he/him” pronouns.

In 2017, Bernal was sentenced to 12 months probation for snapping his fingers during a hearing for Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke, who ultimately was sentenced to prison for killing Laquan McDonald three years before. The judge had said Bernal antics “came as the courtroom was tense and the action could have caused ‘chaos.'”
At the time, Bernal was a teacher at the Instituto del Progresso Latino, a nonprofit “that assists Latino immigrants and their families.”
