OPINION: Student laments the fundraiser might only cover the cost of aborting three babies
University of Chicago students recently held a concert to help women kill their innocent preborn babies in the womb.
But some lamented how only a couple babies would get killed due to the group’s efforts.
“UChicago student groups Project Reproductive Freedom (PRF), W+, and Midwave Radio hosted the second annual Bands 4 ’Bortion benefit concert at the Dean’s Commons on May 2, raising over $1,700 for the Chicago Abortion Fund (CAF),” according to The Chicago Maroon.
The student newspaper reported that “W+,” an official student group through the campus Institute of Politics, also helped with the event.
Ryan Cairns, a UChicago student, helped organize the event. Cairns previously interned with the Chicago Abortion Fund, whose goal is to help kill off as many innocent preborn babies in the womb as possible.
To be clear, abortion is the direct killing of a living, preborn baby. Abortionists do so by having women take chemical drugs and bleed out in their dorm room, or by jamming a knife into a baby’s neck. Other times, they inject chemicals into the baby’s heart to induce a heart attack abortion. This should be distinguished from inducing labor when a woman is severely sick and needs to have the baby removed, but the intent is not to kill the baby. Similarly, it differs from removing a baby who has already died in utero, such as what happens during a miscarriage. Neither are abortions.
“From March to May, [CAF] tries to raise as much money as possible to sustain operations in funding appointments and logistical costs for people coming to Chicago or to the general Midwest area seeking abortion care,” Cairns said, using a euphemism for the direct destruction of innocent life.
“There are a lot of barriers to getting care,” Cairns said. “I was proud at the end of the event, but I remember telling someone, ‘We raised money for about four or five abortions—maybe only two or three if you take into account travel costs,’” the student organizer said.
In other words, only a couple innocent babies will be killed by Planned Parenthood or another abortion facility. If Cairns’ dreams came true, more babies would be killed off and tossed in a dumpster.
Another depraved student said the event “[was] overflowing with love and support and radical joy.”
In fact, quite the opposite! Since love means “to will the good of the other,” as St. Thomas Aquinas teaches, abortion cannot be love. Abortion ends an innocent human life, and since it is not part of “the good” to destroy human life, it cannot be love. And to have “radical joy” at the prospect of a woman killing her baby is quite sick.
The organizers said they helped raise money for childcare – but not to support new parents so they can have some time to themselves or work to make some extra money. Rather, the goal is to make it easier for the mom to have an abortion.
True love, directed toward the good, would focus on helping moms, dads, and children in need to live a thriving life. What the organizers promote, instead, is hatred of innocent life and all its joys and challenges. To support people in their most difficult times to choose life – that is what true “radical joy” and “love” looks like.
