A University of Michigan professor mocked the assassination of Turning Point USA CEO Charlie Kirk as “prudent” and “rational.”

Professor Lydia Fettig wrote a Facebook post that quoted 2023 comments from Kirk about the Second Amendment. Following Kirk’s assassination, many liberals have mocked his death by citing the conservative leader’s words.

Kirk said in 2023: “You will never live in a society when you have an armed citizenry and you won’t have a single gun death,” he said. “That is nonsense. It’s drivel. But I am — I think it’s worth it. I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights.:

“That is a prudent deal. It is rational. Nobody talks like this. They live in a complete alternate universe,” he said, comparing the situation to the trade-offs between the benefits of cars and automobile casualties.

Fettig, after the assassination, wrote: “Well, at least his death was prudent and rational,” before quoting from the interview.

In the past several days, her profile has been removed from the university website and her LinkedIn account has been taken down. In addition to teaching, she worked as an academic advisor, according to screenshots of her profile.

The College Fix contacted Fettig via email on Monday to ask for further comment on what she said and any additional context. She did not reply.

Other professors and university employees have been quick to mock Kirk’s death, as catalogued by The Fix.

“It is OKAY to be happy when someone who hated you and called for your people’s death dies — even if they are murdered,” Johnathan Perkins, University of California Los Angeles’ race and equity director, wrote on social media. He has since been placed on leave.

Meanwhile, vigils have been organized across the country to pray for Kirk and his family.

Law enforcement has identified Utah resident Tyler Robinson as the alleged killer of Kirk last week at Utah Valley University.
