Teammate of transgender player joins lawsuit against NCAA seeking to ban men in women’s sports
Controversy surrounding transgender volleyball player Blaire Fleming on San Jose State University’s women’s volleyball team continues to fester, most recently after a video from a game showed Fleming spike a ball so hard it knocked another player to the ground.
“One of Flemingâs kills in the third set raised eyebrows on social media. The Spartans were leading 13-11 at that point in the set when the two teams put together a nice rally. San Jose State set Fleming up for the spike, and she nailed one down off of the Lobosâ libero,” Fox News reported about the game against University of New Mexico on Thursday.
“The ball appeared to either go off of the Lobos playerâs face or chest. The momentum took her backwards, and she fell to the ground. The point went to the Spartans.”
Beth Bourne, a California-based activist against the transgender ideology in schools and universities, posted the incident with the comment: “Sorry to the women of @UNMLoboVB who were overpowered by a male-led team, nothing about tonight’s game was fair or safe.”

At least four collegiate women’s volleyball teams over the last month have forfeited their match against San Jose State University rather than play against a team with a biological male who identifies as female.
Some on Instagram recently called on San Diego State University’s women’s volleyball team to follow suit for their upcoming home game against the Spartans on Nov. 9.
“Mountain West Conference Commissioner Gloria Nevarez said Thursday the forfeitures that volleyball teams are willing to take to avoid playing San Jose State is ‘not what we celebrate in college athletics’ and that she is heartbroken over what has transpired this season surrounding the Spartans and their opponents,” NBC reported.
“…Republican governors of Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming have made public statements in support of the cancellations, citing a need for fairness in womenâs sports,” NBC reported. “Former President Donald Trump, the GOP nominee in this year’s presidential race, this week referenced an unidentified volleyball match when he was asked during a Fox News town hall about transgender athletes in women’s sports.”
âI saw the slam, it was a slam. I never saw a ball hit so hard, hit the girl in the head,â Trump reportedly said. âYou just ban it. The president bans it. You just donât let it happen.â
San Jose State University has had to increase its security measures for the team amid the national spotlight the controversy has generated, officials told news outlets.
One of Fleming’s teammates — who is opposed to allowing biological men on women’s teams — has joined a lawsuit against the NCAA seeking to ban the practice.
Letâs be realistic! If the NCAA keeps allowing men in womenâs sports then what is there to stop coaches from having all men on a team. Our next generation of women should never have to be put in the position to worry about beating out men for a scholarship opportunity! https://t.co/074CRXCUTo
