College Fix student reporter Ben Rothove is the inaugural winner of the “Adam Andrzejewski Memorial Scholarship,” named for the late government watchdog pioneer.
Rothove, a former summer fellow, is currently a student at University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he founded The Madison Federalist. He has interned for National Review and Washington Examiner and began writing for The Fix as a freshman. The $25,000 scholarship will help Rothove pay for his senior year at UW-Madison.
Andrzejewski, who died unexpectedly in 2024, is the founder of Open the Books, a nationwide government watchdog. The organization created the scholarship to honor his legacy.
Journalist Mark Tapscott praised Rothove, writing:
I grew to have a profound respect and admiration for Adam and that is why I cannot imagine a better choice than Ben. Like Adam, Ben arrived at a place in his life where he saw something that was fundamentally wrong and , again like Adam, he did something about it.
Rothove written and overseen investigative articles while running the Madison Federalist.
He has continued that reporting for The Fix, recently covering Mizzou’s use of student fees for racial identity groups.
